Update Samsung Galaxy S5 to android 5.0 lollipop
Samsung released Android lollipop update (Android 5.0) to Galaxy S5, if it is not yet rolled out in your country don’t be upset you can update your Galaxy S5 to latest android update by using following guidelines.
First of all it is to mention that you should read carefully this post and related previous posts regarding manually updating your device with Odin. Manual firmware update may brick your mobile, may void your warranty if something will go wrong, so do it with your own risk and understanding. Galaxy S5 has many models based on country and carriers. You can check your device model name inside settings and tap on about device. For some of the models lollipop update is released and for some devices it is yet to release. For example device with model no. SM-G900F and SM-G900I it has been released. But for SM-G900H it is yet to be released. In India most of the Galaxy S5 models earlier sold with model SM-G900H that is Exynos Octa core processor with 3G, later Samsung has released SM-G900I with Snapdragon processor with 4G compatibility. For SM-G900H users still have to wait but . G900I users can update the S5 using Taiwan firmware available on sammobile.com .
This firmware will not void your warranty as it is signed by Samsung and your knox counter will not increase, but you have to factory reset/hard reset your mobile so that it will work smoothly and without any force close.
Steps for updating Galaxy S5 G900I –
- Backup all your data, sms, contacts, apps, internal memory card to your laptop
- Download firmware from sammobile.com firmware section
- Install Latest Samsung Kies Software and install all the drivers through kies as instructed
- Extract (unzip) the firmware file
- Download Odin v3.09
- Extract Odin zip-file
- Open Odin v3.09
- Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
- Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
- Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
- Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
- Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes
First reboot will take longer time , thereafter change language inside settings and for better results do factory reset.
Lollipop update has a fluid experience, every where you will found white theme e.g. contacts, dialer, settings, messaging, email etc. Update also have better RAM management so that there is always at least 300MB RAM free how many applications you run.
Inside notifications you have options to show all the notifications, or hide notifications on lock screen. Also one do not interruption option is there to mute all the notifications.
