How to use Digilocker to store Aadhar, DL and RC

In this post we will see what is Digilocker and how to use Digilocker. Digilocker is a platform made available by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) by Govt. of India. In this platform you can download and view the documents linked to your Aadhar card in digitally form. For example, Aadhar Card, Vehicle Registration, PAN card, Driving License, LPG connection etc.

DigiLocker having following features

  1. Users can access all the documents in digital form issued by various registered agencies
  1. These documents are verified and authenticated as these are directly issued by the registered issuing agencies to your DigiLocker account
  1. The documents and certificate can be accessed everywhere using web or mobile apps
  1. User can also upload their documents and also E-sign them as similar to self-attestation of hard copies of documents.

In the recent statements of Traffic Police of various states, it is also confirmed that digital copies of documents stored on DigiLocker is also accepted as valid document proof. However, there are some conflict on this time to time by Traffic Police.

As if original documents are not available, they have to seize the vehicle in the event of braking of traffic law.

How to use DigiLocker

In this post we will see how to use DigiLocker and access your documents and certificates issued by various agencies.

First of all, to use and access Digilocker, your mobile number should have been linked to Aadhar card, if it is not linked you will not be able to use DigiLocker. To link your mobile number to Aadhar you have visit nearest Aadhar center.

DigiLocker can be accessed through their website or mobile app that is available for both Android and iOS.

For first time you have to sign up on DigiLocker, enter your mobile number and submit, you will receive the OTP on your mobile. Enter OTP, thereafter choose your desired password, after signup, to fetch Aadhar linked documents you have to enter your Aadhar number and submit, thereafter again you will receive OTP to authenticate your Aadhar number.

After completion the process, you will reach the dashboard of application. On left side you will see issued document, uploaded documents, shared document’s tab.

To view your important document such as PAN Card issued by Income Tax deptt., Registration Certificate of Vehicle, Aadhar Card, Driving license, you have to pull these documents one by one, after they are pulled into your account you can see them under “issued documents tab”.

Click on the icon “get more now”, in app and web interface, choose the documents type e.g. Registration of motor vehicle can be downloaded the link given on dash board.

Otherwise you can search desired documents by typing in search Box, e.g. type Haryana, now type Transport Deptt. Haryana, Now select “Registration of Vehicles”. Enter the details as sought Registration number, Father’s name, Chassis no. and get the document.

For the PAN card, enter PAN number, name on PAN card and get the documents.

How to use Digilocker to upload documents

On DigiLocker documents can also be uploaded from your local storage, you can view and access them anytime. The documents shall be in the file format of PDF, JPG and PNG and the file size should be upto 10MB. Users can also store other document if they want to save securely on cloud.

On uploaded tab in Web/ App interface you will see by default two folders i.e. Documents, My Certificates. You can upload the documents here from your computer or mobile. After uploading also mark them as per their document type e.g. PAN verification records.

mParivahan app can also be used for downloading vehicle registration and driving license etc. Download mParivahan app in your mobile, after downloading you can search vehicle details by their registration number and also driving license details.

To make RC on dashboard you have to go on RC Dashboard tab, where you can create virtual RC by entering details of vehicle e.g. vehicle chassis number last four digits, vehicle engine no. last four digits.

Now your RC details will remain on RC tab, wherever you open the app.
